Allegion
This summer as an Industrial Design co-op at Allegion, I worked on a variety of residential and commercial door hardware products. At Allegion, I balanced up to 4 projects at a time touched every part of the design process, from research, to sketching, to final renders and animation for voice of customer testing. In addition, I presented and defended my design choices in weekly design review meetings, and considered manufacturing processes for real products. I also participated in and facilitated usability testing within the company, and considered the user’s entire experience with the company’s products.
Contributions
Research Conducted market analyses, evaluated customer sentiment for existing products, created perceptual maps to understand the role of products on the market.
Sketching Created 10+ sketch pages per product using digital tools such as procreate along with sketching on paper, developed sketch renders to present final concepts, sketched over Keyshot to create high-fidelity images.
Modeling Learned Creo to create robust CAD models that could be accessed by engineers, incorporated internal components created by the engineering department.
Prototyping Used PLA and SLA 3D printers to bring my designs to life, used rapid prototypes to test usability and user experience, and created realistic models to show in meetings to fully communicate my design intent.
The projects that I worked on at Allegion are not yet on the market and remain confidential property of the company. If you have further questions about my experience at Allegioin, please contact me at brunswlm@mail.uc.edu.
